Ok - so, I figure, today will be pretty good. I have everything done to the point I need to put up the cement/backerboards; I already have the plan for how to cut everything, and how bad could it be?

Well - Mr Inf got stuck awake until after 4 am. (I was awake too, but trying hard) and so he slept in this morning, rightfully so. I got up with MiniInf at about 9 am or so, and then waited for Mr Inf to wake up. Since the bathroom is right beside the bedroom, cutting and screwing in cement board would have been a *wee* bit loud.

Mr Inf got up around 12:30 or 1300, so I started on the cutting. I cut the first piece with no issues, put it up with no issues, and I was rolling! I had to revisit the cut plan after I realised that one part of the wall had no supports, and there was some fine-tuning required on the sizes, but overall it was going pretty well. WAY more time consuming than I expected, but so be it. The walls are weird sizes, so require some creative cutting, and that turns into more time. Also, the cutting area is downstairs and the bathroom upstairs, plus I kept leaving the necessary tools in the area I wasn't in. Many trips up and down the steps!

After a solid five hours, all of the cement board around the tub, shower and window was up, and it was time for dinner. There had been breaks for MiniInf's second lunch (that kid is on a growth spurt!) and other short interruptions. After dinner, I decide to make use of Mr Inf's repeated (and sincere!) requests to help. The remaining cement board (60x32) needs to be turned into 2 pieces of 16x59. So, one cut to remove an inch of the width, and then cut the board in half lengthwise. I went over it a couple of times, then went upstairs to caulk under the wallboard - I am really trying hard to ensure a watertight seal here.

Five minutes later, Mr Inf calls up the stairs for me to get the medkit. Yes - he has cut himself with the utility knife, quite deeply, across the top of his thumb, neathly running diagonally from just above the centre of the knuckle to just below the tip. He managed to cut through the nail too. Deep, but not gaping, and while there was blood it wasn't gushing or pumping, or even seeping by the time I saw it. All told about an inch long, and about an eigth or more of an inch deep. Quite deep enough, for a thumb.

So Mr Inf refuses hospital (as I knew he would), then gets quite cranky, blames the tool (after first blaming that he wasn't wearing gloves). He took about fifteen minutes to try and continue working (against my request that he not), then he stopped and went to bed.

Now - I am all for taking care of an injury, and I certainly would not expect him to continue cutting stuff... but he didn't even clean up the blood! When I came downstairs after finishing the cleanup in the room, the blood trail still ran from the garage, through the hall, through the kitchen, to the sink! He hurt his *thumb*! It's not like his other hand got damaged! How hard is it to run a cloth across the countertop?

And, since he's gone to bed, my workday is done. I don't have the heart to tell him that he cut the board the wrong way. Since in the end it will all fit with some manouvering, I just kind of shrug, you know? :)

I figure I still have three days left; I need to do thinset in all the seams and even out a very uneven wall; I need to thinset and lay the floor cement board after cutting the toilet and vent holes, and after all that I need to tile. Then grout. Hopefully I can bail from work early tomorrow and get in a solid few hours on it.

Wow. This sounds like a lot of stuff I would really suck at. I hope it goes smoother and faster from here :)

Wow, you've been busy!

Sounds like there's a lot of work left to be done, but that (...a few mishaps aside) you're getting on pretty well! Go Builder!Infie. I hope you manage to finish it all in the desired time frame. :)

But DUDE! Will there still be things for me to knock down when I get over there?! :)

(And poor Mr Inf! Hope his thumb gets better really soon - and if it doesn't, he's not too stubborn to get it checked out!)

P.S.

Whenever I glance at the title of this post, I keep thinking you mean the place.

(DUH!)
