Polaris 21 - Toronto - July 6
Jul. 8th, 2007 06:45 pmNow ... THIS is a convention!
Polaris (aka Toronto Trek) has been around as long as I've been in fandom. I've attended several throughout the years, with the last being Toronto Trek 6 (yes, 15 years ago!).
Toronto Trek typically gets in the thousands of attendees, and runs a huge number of events for the folks who come in. Every day is packed with potential things to do, and of course there are also photo sessions, autograph sessions, an art room, and the ever present dealer area.
Friday was a short in and out for me. Since I didn't register in advance it was pay at the door, and the registration process was extremely fast. No lineups! (For those at Asylum, you'll know how momentus that is). I took a walk around the dealers room which was still being set up, was turned back at the art room because it hadn't opened yet, and went through the items up for charity auction. There were lots of people in costume even though it was only Friday. Unlike earlier events, there weren't that many Klingon, Vulcan, or even Star Fleet folks. Far more than you see most places of course, say around 30 or so, but there were many more people in Stargate SG1 and Atlantis uniforms. Still, great to see so many people in the spirit of the event!
Friday night was also a party with the guest stars, except Katee Sackhoff who wasn't in town yet. I didn't attend, but I heard that it was a great time.
A picture from outside the Dealers and Art room of the many folks there Friday evening. A large number are in costume. One fellow was in Aliens Marine garb, with a face-hugger crawling on his back. Now that costume was awesome.

But you only talked about Friday? Didn't you attend on Sat or Sun? /stalkery behavior
