Renovation Update
Sep. 23rd, 2007 02:35 pmYesterday, I was running on about an hour sleep. Not unusual for me, I admit, but since I also have a cold (yeah yeah, I know, woe is me, yadda yadda) it wiped me out way more than normal.
So - I decide I simply *must* put down the bathroom floor anyway. It's been weeks, and there has just been thing after thing preventing me from getting it done. So; stuffy aching head or not, tired or not, MiniInf or not, it had to be done.
Well - not doing things when you can't think is WAY smarter than going ahead and doing things. I started off by calculating the amount of cement I had left (29.5 lbs) and how much I had used as a percentage of the bad (roughly 40% used) and went ahead and calculated the amount of water I'd need.
The cement I ended up with was *much* harder to work than usual, so I decided I had measured wrong and added more water, which improved its malleability quite a bit even if it wasn't what I was used to.
See - HERE is where some valuable rethinking would have helped. ANYWAY.
I've gone ahead and laid the floor, and it is in there solidly and looks good. There are a couple of minor imperfections but overall it's a pretty good job, especially given that I realised this morning I calculated the water for the cement based on what I had already used (40%) rather than what was left (60%). Small wonder it was so hard to manage! I am an idiot. Anyhow, the additional water I added would have brought me up to within a half litre of where I was supposed to be, so I'll have to wait and see whether or not the floor holds properly. I tested the bonds today and it seems solid, plus I checked the cement around the edges and it is not crumbling or anything. In the end, if I have to redo it in a year or so ... *shrug*. *headdesk*
I have premix cement for the walls, so at least I won't screw *that* up!
