Work News - Update

Today went better than I expected and not as well as it could have, but overall a positive result.

They have assigned a new Director already, but he seems a pretty spiffy guy (much better than Director Autocrat who is leaving), and we all (me, new Director, and VP) seem to agree on how the project should proceed.

They are also ok with having me come back in a similarly nebulous position as before, where I have responsibilities and authorities but few to no deliverables - which is excellent. The downside is that there will definitely be more oversight and interference than I dealt with last time, but I'm willing to give it a shot to see how it goes.

So ... *relief*

Glad it went well! (if not as well as it could have, it still sounds pretty good!)

The new Director and VP sound like good people (Well they'd have to be to agree with you. right? :)), so I hope it all works out with what you have to do and stuff.

Yay for you! :)

It isn't, thank goodness.

I've had really bad experiences in the past with this kind of situation; where you spend a lot of time on something, and then there is a management change and you have to prove yourself all over again. I'm getting too old and too irritable to want to do that every darned time. :)

In this case, I was pretty sure that was how it was going to go. Luckily my vendor and my business teams had already talked in the executive committee about getting me back, so while the VP hadn't met me she did already know my name. The Director assigned is new and has another large project on the go. That one could have gone either way - this project is a big chance to look like a hero for this guy - but he was actually kind of worried about how he was going to be able to come up to speed in time to be useful. So - he seems to be someone who takes his responsibilities seriously without being a dictator about it.

It turned out very well - I am now optimistic. Woo hoo!

Thanks for your support, Bob!

Actually, scumballs agree with me all the time. :)

But yes; these two seem pretty reasonable. The new Director came across as pretty easygoing, and the VP was very businesslike and didn't seem to mind when I contradicted her a bit -- Not that she liked it, but she didn't try to chop my head off like many would.

Thanks!
